Caritas Aurea 2023

Welcome

“Without an education in the liberal arts, an education in our shared western and human history and all that this represents, where do we find the capacity to recognize tyranny and resist it? At Golden View Classical Academy, students are treated as heirs to this legacy of thought and character, such that they can confront their own trials when they come, as surely they must.”

— Dr. Garrow, Principal

“The days are long, but the years are short”– is a sentiment felt to the very core of anyone watching a child grow.  From our humble beginnings in 2015 in a former Arby’s headquarters, to what we have established within these walls we have made our own, we also feel this statement deeply.  These walls support photographs of Winston Churchill in his finest hour–where he had to make the decision to sink or swim, the Gettysburg Address when Lincoln so eloquently laid out what it means to truly live for something (and die for it too), a collection of classical oil paintings that rotate with the curriculum and the seasons, and a tremendous showcase of student artwork.  Parents read The Kissing Hand with their student before they drop them off for the first day of Kindergarten, and in what feels like just a moment, they are signing permission slips to spend the night in the woods for Schole where students are sorted into their houses, and handing out band-aids after a particularly rowdy Sentinel Games.  Within these walls students are nurtured, guided, encouraged, and inspired to become the next generation of outstanding citizens.  Students are allowed to sit with the discomfort of the pains necessary for growth, and shown examples of what leaders experience to be able to change the world.  As Golden View itself continues to grow and adapt, we strive to remember the importance of each virtue in our daily operations and move forward with the same humility we had through our inaugural year.

Caritas Aurea provides the opportunity to come together for the benefit of Golden View, and share in the excitement of the future.  As our most substantial fundraising event of the year, we hope to raise $256,000 for the Sentinel Foundation to expand our events within the community, to retain our excellent teachers and continue to attract top talent, to support our unique house system for the upper school students, and to provide financial aid for Golden View families.  In a climate that is constantly changing in ways I’m not sure any of us could have imagined or planned for, it is with paramount importance that our faculty, staff, and administration embodies the meaning of a classical education.  And while some days it feels like a Sysiphean task, it is our duty to students to uphold the expectation of virtue for the long days and the short years.

So don your boots and your best bolo tie, and tip your hat to a Golden View night to remember.  We look forward to seeing you (and your checkbook) at Caritas Aurea 2023.
