24"x36" | Pastel | NFLPA Former Player and Artist, Jose C. Portilla, was born in Zaragoza Coahuila, Mexico. At the age of six he moved to Houston, Texas. There he naturally developed a love for football, art, and the outdoors.
The lessons of hard work and dedication, which Jose learned through football, naturally enhanced his artistic abilities. His love for art is captured in the wildlife and landscape paintings are so vividly portrayed. After receiving a scholarship from the University of Arizona, Jose continued his studies of the fine arts. Since then, he has exhibited his art at the Gross Gallery, The Society of Illustrators, The Woodruff Art Center, and the Marietta Cobb Museum of Art. Jose’s art has also been published in various magazines, including the Pastel Journal and was one of the finalists in the International Pastel Competition. Jose is very involved in the art community and served as a board member of the Arizona Latino Art Cultural Center. He was awarded Best of Show at the 59th annual Quinlan Exhibit.
