Each year, the NSCD commissions an artist with a disability to capture the excitement of the Wells Fargo Ski Cup and the spirit of the NSCD. The Artworks program is designed to create economic opportunities for young people with developmental or cognitive delays as they are leaving high school. This particular piece was created by VSA Colorado/Access Gallery artist Allie Gestner. Allie is an artist who possesses great confidence and amazing technical skill. She is also an artist with autism, which causes Allie to revisit particular subjects with intense attention to detail. Allie is currently enrolled in a graphic design class at Colorado Community College of Denver.
Allie is interested in all types of art, including fractal imagery and anime, painting. Allie is a talented artist, and spends her time sketching, sculpting and painting. On her own initiative, she built a pop art inspired blue bear, based on the larger than life sculpture at the Denver Convention Center, and she is continuing to expand her artistic skills. Allies career goals is to finish college and become an animation artist or graphic designer.
