Athletes vs ALS

Welcome

Athletes vs. ALS was founded by Johnny Rodriguez after his ALS diagnosis in the fall of 2023 (at the age of 35).

He’s partnered with Augie’s Quest to Cure ALS to raise critical funds for ALS research.

Johnny started playing lacrosse in Maryland, and he was captain of the 2011 National Championship Team at Salisbury University where he also was named National Goalie of the Year. After graduating, Johnny played professional lacrosse for 7 years before committing himself to a coaching career where he resurrected a struggling program to reach national recognition named in the top 25 during the 2022 and 2023 seasons. In September of 2023, he was inducted into the Salisbury University Hall of Fame, and in October of 2024 in to his high school sports Hall of Fame.

In October of 2023, Johnny was diagnosed with ALS, and created a platform to involve athletes in support of ALS. ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a progressive neurodegenerative fatal disease. It attacks cells in the brain and spinal cord that are needed to keep muscles moving, leading to muscle weakness and paralysis.

You can support Johnny and his efforts of finding a cure for ALS by participating in this auction, making a straight donation, or having a team fundraiser!
