Polasek Crucifix

This item has already been SOLD!

Description

In his own words, Albin Polasek's supreme achievement in sculpture was The Victorius Christ, commissioned by St. Cecilia's Cathedral in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1939. The seven-foot figure on a fifteen-foot cross adorns the high alter of the Cathedra, designed by architect William L. Steel. This beautiful rendition of the dying Christ shows no defect; in fact, it portrays an uplifted head and spirit of triumph as He uttered the words, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do!" Mirroring Polasek's own beliefs and philosophy of life, the victory rendered in this piece is the same spirit by which the Czech-American sculptor lived his life.
