Transport yourself to the kitchens of Lady Bird Johnson or Billie Jean King by making their favorite recipes. These would be a great addition to the walls of your kitchen or a personalized cookbook for newlyweds.
These recipes were the favorite of the following women: Eunice Kennedy Shriver, Mrs. Lyndon B Johnson, Betty Frieden, Katherine Switzer, Billie Jean King and Esther Peterson (VP Consumer Programs, Giant Food). In 1977 the National Association of Girls and Women in Sports (NAGWS) decided to recognize the part bake sales had played through the years in helping finance athletic programs for girls and women. The Board of Directors decided to do a Cake Walk at the upcoming National AAHPERD
Convention in Seattle. NAGWS was responsible for publishing all the rule guides for interscholastic and intercollegiate sports that girls and women competed in at that time. (This was prior to the NCAA). The Board asked famous women to submit the recipes for their favorite cookies and the school children in the area baked the cookies. They were handed out as prizes at the Cake Walk.
