About Peace Village: Peace Village is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization in 1985 that serves seniors in the assisted living, memory care, and independent living settings. Located in the suburban Cook County township of Palos Park, Peace Village serves the greater Chicagoland area including Orland Park, Tinley Park, and Palos Heights. The mission of Peace Village is “to embrace the continuing vitality of our residents by fostering a loving and respectful community in which our residents’ individuality is honored and wellness is supported, faith is inspired and friendships are made.”
About Lora’s Fund: In 2006, Lora Contorno began her ministry of working with the residents of Peace Village. Her passion for working with seniors was carried out in everything she did. Each day she would seek out those who needed an extra kind word or smile and always prioritized the needs of the residents. This was especially true of those who had run into difficult circumstances and were in financial need. Lora always encouraged residents in this situation to feel good about accepting financial assistance from the Benevolent Fund because it plays a key role in carrying out the mission of Peace Village, which is “to embrace aging by fostering a loving and respectful community in which our residents’ individuality is honored, wellness is supported, faith is inspired, and friendships are made.”
Lora’s ministry at Peace Village was cut short when she lost her battle with cancer in April 2017. During her 10 year tenure at Peace Village, Lora made an enormous impact on many employees, residents, and their families. Peace Village has been honored to rename its Benevolent Fund to the Lora Contorno Benevolent Fund (Lora’s Fund) to create a legacy for a special woman who had a great passion for helping others in need.
