This original carved cedar model pole and stand are by Kwakwaka'wakw artist Bradley Whonnock. The finely carved eagle is a crest of the Whonnock family, represented here in the classic Kwakwaka'wakw style.

Whonnock was born in Alert Bay in 1930. His great-nephew Shawn Whonnock erected the most recent pole in the Royal BC Museum's Thunderbird Park. This familial legacy is emblematic of the renaissance of First Nations art in the mid-20th century.

Donated by Joyce Wolfe.
