"Peregrine Falcon and White Throated Swifts" is a limited-edition lithograph print of the 1976 painting by renowned local artist Robert Bateman. It is numbered 421 in an edition of 950. Its framed dimensions are 36" x 29". The strong composition conveys a plummeting, unstable feeling. While the delicate rendering of snow reveals the shapes of the landscape, the peregrine's wing almost touches the frame. This line adds force to the hawk's dive. The misty trees and clouds provide a sense of atmosphere and scale without disrupting the dynamic momentum of the painting.
Robert Batemans realistic and evocative painting style reflects his deep understanding and appreciation for nature, featuring wildlife in its natural habitat and encouraging the viewer to closely observe the natural world. Besides being one of Canadas foremost artists, he is a spokesman for many environmental and preservation issues.
