This custom-framed original serigraph print, entitled "Spawning Salmon," is a limited edition from 1974 by leading 20th century Nuu-Chah-Nulth artist Art Thompson. The established Nuu-Chah-Nulth visual vocabulary shines in its expression of Thompson's cultural traditions and belief systems. The prominence of the salmon in the intertwined circle of life is the specific theme of this rare and desirable print.
Signed by the artist in the lower right corner, it is marked with the edition number 40/200. Unframed, it measures 17.5" x 23".
Art Thompson (1948-2002) belonged to the Ditidaht band on the west coast of Vancouver Island. He is recognized internationally as a master carver, engraver, print maker, and teacher. His work is found in numerous prominent public and private collections across North America and the world.
