Professional Reviews:

2017 Ebner Ebenauer Black Edition Chardonnay – 2 bottles

94 Points

Stone and wet pebble notions are all that appear on the nose for now. More time in the glass reveals a hint of creaminess. The palate is slender and sinuous, guarding its fine-boned, chalky structure and gentle creaminess and allowing a glimpse of gorgeous stone fruit on the finish. A most elegant, grown-up and poised Chardonnay that is lovely now but will evolve much further. Real sophistication. Drink now–2035.

91+ Points

Vinified in French barriques for about a year, Ebner-Ebenauer’s 2017 Chardonnay Black Edition opens very differently in comparison to all the other wines produced in this leading Weinviertel domain. The nose is bright and pure yet intense on the elegant nose, with its sur lie, chalky and white blossom notes. Rich and intense but also structured and salty, this is an impressive Chardonnay that is still a bit untamed and loud but should develop very well over the next months and years. Tasted in January 2020. Drink 2020 – 2033

2016 Marrone Barolo Bussia – 2 bottles

94 Points

Aromas of cedar, strawberry and dried flowers follow through to a medium to full body, chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. Needs time to soften. Powerful and focused. Impressive. Better after 2022.

This opens with aromas of red-skinned berry, truffle and leather. The firmly structured palate offers red cherry, licorice and white pepper alongside youthful taut tannins and bright acidity. Drink 2024–2034.

The Gian Piero Marrone 2016 Barolo Bussia pours out of the bottle with a light ruby color and a lean-bodied appearance. The wine offers a grounded, albeit not particularly intense bouquet with dark fruit, blackberry, plum, tar and camphor ash. The wine glides clean over the palate, and it offers a mid-weight performance with moderate power. A mere 3,340 bottles were made. 2022 – 2035

2019 Snowden Brothers Vineyard Cab Sauvignon – 2 bottles

92 Points

Bold cherry notes join hints of cedar, vanilla and sage on the nose of the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Brothers Vineyard. Like the other offerings from Snowden, it’s medium to full-bodied and silky, with fine-grained tannins and a softly dusty finish. This is a very pretty wine, and while it may not have the concentration for true long-term greatness, it should offer delicious drinking for more than a decade. 2022 – 2035

93 Points

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Brothers Vineyard is the most delicate and transparent of the 2019s here. Crushed flowers, spice, mint and bright red-toned fruit accents lend subtlety and translucent finesse to this nicely balanced Cabernet Sauvignon. 2024 – 2036
