Nicole Walkowiak

Nicole Walkowiak, Doctor of Nursing Practice Student at Rush University, plans to provide wound care education to people with intravenous drug injection wounds. She will work closely with staff and volunteers on outreach teams to enhance their knowledge of wound care and help them identify when to direct a patron to seek medical treatment. The education she offers focuses on harm reduction, reducing wound infection, and preventing sepsis. Since outreach teams rely heavily on supply donations, Nicole intends to raise funds to purchase specialty wound care items for her outreach care and to provide printed hand out education for program patrons. Additionally, she intends to develop evidenced based educational resources and references for outreach providers for continued use.
