Corners Outreach is a 501(c)(3) that centers on the success of children as a change element in curbing generational poverty in communities. Having a multi-generational focus, Corners Outreach is a catalyst for 100% high school graduation through our Corners Academy programs, and improved career opportunities for underemployed parents through Corners Industries. Our vision is to transform students, parents & neighbors to reach God-given potential & break cycles of poverty, improving the community for all. Two key elements in the struggle to disrupt cycles of poverty within a community are creating a self-sufficient nonprofit through an earned revenue stream and creating a business that pays a livable wage to previously underpaid employees.
In 2012, Corners Academy began as an after school program for struggling students in a Title 1 school (large percentage of free and reduced lunch students). Through personalized tutoring programs centering on elementary schools, Corners showed test score improvements of more than 35% per student. While our primary program is elementary students, we also have established teen programs and parent workshops to reach the whole family. In 2017, Corners Industries Lawn Care was launched to create an earned revenue stream which can help fund our Corners Academy programming. Corners Industries’ three goals are to raise earnings levels for families, to create opportunities to teach the value of education to parents and positively affect life choices, and to donate 15% of all revenue to Corners Academy.
