Haycock Elementary PTA

What is the PTA? ​ Most Elementary, Middle, and High schools in the USA has a Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). A PTA is a registered non-profit organization that operates according to the PTA Bylaws. Its purpose is to provide the school added boosts in terms of human resources (parent volunteers), funds (for materials, supplies, field trips etc.), curriculum enhancement programs, organize social events, and more.Who are the people on the PTA Executive Committee and Board? ​We are all parent volunteers!! Even those of us on the Executive Committee. Yes, each of us have to be nominated and voted in by other PTA members, but we are all still volunteers. No prior experience nor qualifications required, just the drive and enthusiasm to help the community. There are 10 Board members, 5 of whom are Vice Presidents overseeing the 5 main branches of the PTA’s work. These are the General VP, Community Affairs, Fundraising, Social Events, and Curriculum Enhancement. Each VP oversees and manages various committees. Operations – Manages the PTA’s operational activities such as membership, directory, and copy committee for the Tuesday folders. Community Affairs – Ensures that the Haycock community stays engaged and informed in matters that affects the community from without at the county, state, and national level. Think FCPS Budget, School Board election, etc. We also organize activities to give back to our community such as 'Stop Hunger Now' and various charitable donation drives to help with emergency relief efforts. Fundraising – Devise, organize, and implement campaigns, events, and activities to raise funds for the school, PTA’s programs & activities, and cover operational costs. Social Events – Organize fun community building social events such as Movie Night, Skate Night, Costume Ball, Heritage Night, and more. Curriculum Enhancement – Support and organize programs such as Cougar Woods Science, Art Appreciation, and Junior Achievement programs, as well as after-school activities (once renovation is completed!).
