Description

Juliann Bannon

18 x 24, Oil on Canvas

Juliann paints in oil but the roots of her work lie in the world of ceramics. She began with the potter's wheel and matured into architectural ceramics. In the 1990s she studied and worked at Harvard’s Radcliffe Ceramics studio where she was influenced by notable American and Japanese artists. Several Charleston SC houses are homes to Juliann’s fireplaces and wall murals.

The color palate of her paintings comes from the long experience and varied effects of the kiln firings.  There work includes enigmatic group portraits, landscapes that edge toward the surreal and abstracts that explore fiery color.

Juliann’s non-artistic professional life took her to Detroit, Philadelphia, and Princeton as a business consultant and to Charleston, South Carolina as restaurant owner all of which followed bringing up children in Michigan and Mexico.  Juliann now divides her time between Charlotte, North Carolina, where she works at the Dirworth Artisian Station, and her home in southern Maine where she enjoys her harbor studio.
