Description
Christine Dryden
18 x 18, Oil on Canvas
Christine Dryden is an emerging oil painter with a long history of collaborating with other artists, galleries, and interior designers as a graphic designer and marketing consultant. She began her study of oil painting in 2018, studying with several local teachers before 2020 closures. After a year of enthusiastic daily painting in her home studio, in 2021 Christine joined StudioWorks Artist Collective and also began selling work at Cotswold Marketplace in Charlotte, NC. In addition to StudioWorks' monthly South End Gallery Crawls, she has exhibited at Glave Kocen in Richmond, VA, the McColl Center and Christ Church Gallery in Charlotte, and Camino in Winston-Salem. Her artwork can also be found wrapping utility boxes in two Charlotte neighborhoods: in South End at the corner of South and Bland, and in front of Plaza Midwood’s historic fire station. In Summer 2023, she will participate in the Wild Acres Artist Residency in Little Switzerland, NC.
Christine's work is largely inspired by North Carolina Mountains and frequent visits to her family's home in West Jefferson. "Parkway Sunset" is part of her "Road Trip" series of paintings of High Country vistas and the quickly-changing view from the road, the surprise and awe that appears around each corner. "Autumn in the QC" is a view of the Charlotte skyline from a client's Southpark terrace. She is a member of the Guild of Charlotte Artists and her teachers have included Anne Harkness, Andy Braitman, Angela Nesbit, Nicholas Stewart, Charlotte Zweber, and Miriam Durkin.
She continues to work with small business clients to design books, logos, websites, and other marketing materials. Aside from her four years at the UNC Chapel Hill’s School of Journalism, Christine has lived in Charlotte since 1985. She is married with four children — twins who are Juniors at Myers Park, and two MPHS grads attending Arizona State University and The University of South Carolina.
