Pen and ink on paper, 7¼ x 11½ inches. Original ink crop marks. ⅖ x 1¾-inch outline of a blue box in upper-right corner of image area (to mark position of printed MYSTERY! title). Light graphite sketching and original white correction fluid evident. Paper mildly toned and very lightly soiled.

Drawing, made circa 1990, for a mug promoting PBS’s Masterpiece Theater MYSTERY! series. The mug features an elegant Edwardian scene of a poisoning with three characters who would have fit well in the program’s famous animated opening sequences also drawn by Gorey. Offered here with the mug.
