Artist Statement: Northwest Colorado is a special place. We are blessed with an abundance of wildlife and natural beauty, rugged mountains, wild rivers, fresh water and clean air!
This image of four Sandhill Cranes soaring above the Yampa Valley was taken in the early morning hours of 2023. I deliberately removed the background and used a black & white filter for this photograph.
On one hand, removing the background removes distractions and allows the viewer to focus on the beauty and intricate details of the cranes as they soar through the sky. But something is missing. The beauty of the lush environment necessary for their very survival. Without land and water, Sandhill cranes, like many species, will become extinct. My hope is that this image will be a thought-provoking juxtaposition of the delicate balance required to sustain life on earth and the urgency to maintain it here and now.
