Embroidery
12" x 10"
Artist: Ali Filippelli
Ali Filippelli is based out of Portland, ME. Her embroidery craft began in Oaxaca, MX in 2018 and she has been incorporating it into her life since then. Ali grew up in a Swedish-American household and her art is a practice in Scandinavian minimalism and is rooted in folk art and nature. Her embroidered pieces interpret these themes with beach stones and cotton wildflowers exploding from silhouetted female forms. Ali spent summers in southern Sweden celebrating the Summer Solstice, collecting wildflowers, and swimming along the rocky Baltic coastline. The nostalgia and simplicity of those days are embodied in Maine’s brief, yet bountiful summers and lush coastal landscapes. Her work is a reminder that we need to protect the beauty and wonder of our natural world.
